Ibiza Magic Island!
A summer playground for the
global jet-set. A boho paradise of sandy beaches. A famous party island attracting
world’s best DJs, and thousands of tourists from all over the world. Whichever
tagline you go with, Ibiza certainly has more alternative
personalities than your average holiday hotspot.
Although it is renowned for
having some of the best nightclubs in the world, the island also has an
absolutely beautiful coastline with dozens of tiny coves (or ‘calas’ in Spanish)
to discover and exactly that was the main reason I decided to cross it on my
travel list last summer.
This magical island offers a
great mix of must see and must do’s suited for all type of travelers, but here
is my list of top 10 places you must
not miss if you’re traveling to Ibiza:
1. Ibiza downtown
Ibiza downtown is simply
breathtaking. You will fall in love in every corner of this white Mediterranean
Town. In this district, you will find many souvenir shops, traditional restaurants,
cafes, tabernas, boho/hippie/chic clothes and shoes handmade from Ibiza and
everything you wish and imagine. There you will also find many non-branded boutiques
with wonderful fashion pieces, so it’s better to prepare your wallet 😉
2. Formentera
When we think of Spain’s Balearic
Islands, Ibiza and Mallorca come immediately to mind. Yet it’s time the
spotlight shone on Formentera; a little slice of off-the-beaten track heaven
and only an hour boat ride from Ibiza.
The saying goes that Formentera
is the last Mediterranean paradise; visit it and you’ll know why do locals say
that. The island boasts over 20 kilometers of pristine beaches, and crystal
clear turquoise sea; if I had to choose a favorite it would be Illetes with a
selection of charming, rustic beachside restaurants.
There’s no airport in Formentera;
the only way to reach the island is by boat and it take an hour-long drive from
Ibiza Marina where you can take ferries on regular basis.
3. Ushuaia BIG by David Guetta
If you don’t want to stay up late
into the night in the club and wait the sunrise, then the daytime party BIG by
David Guetta in the Ushuaia club is the right place for you. This open-air
beachside club provides a rare opportunity to see some of the biggest
headliners while sun is still setting. Even if you stayed late last
night, you have enough time to get rest and ready for this spectacle which can’t
be missed if you are on Ibiza!
4. Sa Caleta Beach
This beach is definitely one of
the top 5 beaches of Ibiza. It is surrounded by the orange stone cliff and is a
true small relax oasis, for which you will have a strong need after the many
sleepless nights and hangovers 😉
It is located close to the Ibiza downtown, but keep in mind that this is a wild
beech without sunbeds and there is no shade.
5. Cala Bassa Beach Club
Unlike previous Sa Caleta wild
beach, on the other side of the island close to San Antonio city you will find
a luxurious Cala Bassa Beach Club which offers several bars, restaurants and a
private beach area where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas. However, there is
also a non-private area and whatever you choose you won’t regret for coming to
this part of the island.
6. Amnesia and Pacha nightclubs
Ibiza wouldn’t be a Magic Island
without the nightlife and fabulous nightclubs it has to offer. I must admit I
am not a big fan of the electro music, but if you are on Ibiza you shouldn’t miss
the two most famous clubs for this kind of music – Amnesia and Pacha. Both
clubs are open every night and many world’s best performers have their own show
in these clubs, so carefully plan on which day you would like to visit them,
because the price vary as well.
7. Ibiza Playa d’en Bossa
It is the main, public, the
longest and the biggest beach on the island offering a variety of scenes from
the laid-back family/friendly, to the super trendy to the party-goers' dance
spots. From personal experience, I would recommend choosing a hotel in which
you can enjoy the privacy and comfort, but still feel the energy of Playa d’en
Bossa. My choice was the Hard Rock Hotel.
8. Cala Conta Beach
For many, Cala Conta needs
no introduction. For those who’ve not yet experienced her crystal shores,
you’re in for a very special treat. Cala Conta has fabulous views of the
little islands dotted near Ibiza's coastline, beautiful turquoise waters and several
different areas to explore, making it one of the best beaches on the island.
9. Cala d'Hort
Cala
d'Hort is
a small, beloved beach with a fantastic view of the mysterious island of Es
Vedra, which rises dramatically from the sea only several hundred meters from
the shore. The beach itself is sandy, and in
summer is extremely popular. There are many who flock to the inspiring view and
tranquil setting of Cala d'hort, so my advice is to come early to take a good spot. Also don't miss to try typical Spanish paella in the local restaurant 'El Carmen'.
5. Nikki Beach Club
Last but not least is a well-known global luxury brand – Nikki Beach. It is located on the north-east part of the island and is perfect for lounging in style and comfort whilst sipping champagne or a delicious cocktail, serenaded by the signature live music on an electric violin and saxophone. Their calendar is packed with many top-class entertainment parties such as the annual ‘White party’, so make sure to check their website and book your place on time.
